A. Bacalar, Q.R. — Bacalar and Ichkabal will soon be linked by a road that stretches for 21 kilometers. Governor Mara Lezama and President Andrés Manuel López Obrador made the announcement during their weekend meeting.
They declared in unison that the route will link the town to “an incredible archaeological zone that we will soon show the globe.”
They went on to say that the opening of Ichkabal will set off a boom in rural tourism, leading to increased economic activity and the creation of new employment.
More than a billion pesos will be invested on the archaeological zones, which will serve as an attraction along the railway route, as was noted at the meeting.
The President issued the proclamation while riding the Maya Train to survey recent development projects in the region.
