About Bacalar

Few people outside of Mexico have heard of Lake Bacalar. It lies south of the Riviera Maya, below Cancun, and the hot growth area of Mahahual and Ambergris Caye in Belize. It’s hard to deny the future potential of Bacalar given the government’s tourist and development plan there. They have highlighted Bacalar as the next international draw. One reason is the town’s unparalleled beauty and another is ease of accessibility once the Mayan Train gets completed.

The Mexican government has invested millions of dollars to improve and expand roads. They’ve also invested in the general infrastructure of the area. These moves indicate that another government-nudged real estate boom could be imminent.

Because Bacalar is considered the next tourism hot spot on the Mexican Caribbean Coast, many savvy investors view the underdeveloped real estate market as the most compelling investment option of 2019. The region is of interest to pioneering investors, who will have the opportunity to shape a future for the area, with respect to environment and culture.

Bacalar has been a well-keptsecret for many years. Those who have the know-how to buy ahead of the crowd have been acquiring land parcels over the last few years. The announcement of the Mayan Train has reduced investor risk by overcoming the concern of accessibility. Fueled by the diversity of activities, tourism is expected to increase. Private investors will look for business opportunities, for a retirement home, or a vacation home. Others will invest in residential property to simply appreciate the beauty that exists in the area.

THE 7 COLOR LAGOON

WHY BACALAR IS SO SPECIAL?

Bacalar is special for 7 different reasons and each reason comes in a different shade of blue! It’s called the lagoon of seven colors because of the white sandy bottom that gives the effect of several shades of blue. This fresh water lake is fed by seven underground cenotes. The Mayans believed the cenotes were the reason for the vibrant blue shades the lagoon emits, like the Caribbean Ocean. The Bacalar Lagoon is located in the southern tip of the state of Quintana Roo on the border of Belize. It’s roughly 42 km or 26 miles from end to end and 2 km or 1.2 miles at its widest point. As the second largest natural body of freshwater in Mexico, the lake provides countless activities and places to explore.
