Riviera Maya, Q.R. — The archaeological zones of Ichkabal and Paamul II, both of which are located in Quintana Roo, will be opened by the Government of Mexico. On Saturday, Governor Mara Lezama confirmed that both will be added to the state’s Maya Train route.
She welcomed the announcement by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador of the opening of 26 archaeological zones along the Maya Train route, including two located in Quintana Roo.
She pointed out that during his visit last month, he presented project details of the work needed to have the necessary conditions to access the archaeological zones.
“We receive the unconditional support of the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, to achieve this goal and he joins the efforts to detonate the south of the country, one of the priorities implemented since the beginning of his administration,” she said.
Lezama pointed out that the State Government works hand-in-hand with the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) to ensure that the foundation of parks and museums of the Gran Costa Maya will be created.
She noted that the Ichkabal site already has trails, signs and basic services, while the Paamul II site, which consists of more than 300 buildings, is a recent discovery that is still being uncovered.
