Chetumal, Q.R. — Work has begun on the Maya Train station for the city of Chetumal. Heavy equipment arrived on Tuesday to start clearing a piece of land in the middle of the city. The Chetumal Maya Train station will be built on the four hectares of land that are being cleared out right now.
Adrián Sánchez, who is the Secretary General of the City Council of Othón Pompeyo Blanco, confirmed that the project will begin. The first thing that will be built is a warehouse for maintenance. After that, work will start on building the station.
“There will be a terminal.” I don’t know if it will be in those buildings or nearby, but I know there will be one. For the projects that are going to be done, there will also be ways to get a job. “We’re talking about short-term jobs that could last up to a year,” he said.
The South Border of Chetumal Fair used to take place on the land where a Maya Train station is now being built. Near the end of Carlos Joaquin’s time in office, the land was given to Fonatur by the state government.
Sánchez admitted that the public had not been given enough information, but he said that the Maya Train was very important because they had a deadline to meet.
Since the land didn’t belong to the municipality, they couldn’t say anything about it, but he said it was a good thing because the President was.
