If you’re an intermediate-level freediver with a hankering to try the competitive side of the sport, the Azul Freediving Challenge competition this coming September may be just up your alley.
Organized by PranaMaya Freediving, the competition will take place at the Cenote Azul in Bacalar on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
The competition will last three days, from September 27th to 29th, with Day 1 featuring the Constant Weight No Fins (CNF) discipline, Day 2 for Constant Weight with Bi-Fins (CWTB), and Day 3 for Free Immersion (FIM). It will be conducted under AIDA rules.
The depth of this event will be limited to 70 meters (230 feet) both to optimize safety as well as to entice the intermediate freediver to give the competition a shot.
Prior to the competition, a three-day freediving competition workshop will take place, covering such topics as surface protocols, the theory of the rules of competition, stress management and more.
The workshop will cost 5,000 pesos (~US$263/~234 Euros). Two days of competition will cost 1500 pesos (~$79/~70 Euros) while the full three days will cost 2000 pesos (~$105/~94 Euros).
For either the competition or workshop, all bookings need to be made before September 10th, 2019. Participants must be a minimum of 18 years old and be a certified freediver via AIDA or a similar agency.
