Riviera Maya: Along the Maya Train route, the Defense Ministry will build six hotels. President López Obrador announced Friday that Sedena will manage hotel construction.
López Obrador held his daily press conference in Merida, Yucatan, Friday during a state tour. He said hotels will be built in Palenque, Edzná, Neuvo Uxmal, Chichén Itzá, Tulum, and Calakmul.
First, six hotels will be built. Along the route, we have four pieces of land but are missing two, he said. One of the missing pieces is in Nuevo Uxmal, but the government has recovered 2,400 hectares.
AMLO said in Nuevo Uxmal that most of that land will become a nature reserve. They’re considering building a walkway through the reserve so the hotel can reach the archaeological zone.
AMLO wants another hotel near the Natural Protected Area on the second Maya Train route, Calakumal (ANP).
Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama also tweeted. “Southeast good news continues!” TrenMayaMX will have 6 hotels, one in Tulum. We appreciate @lopezobrador’s affection,” she posted Friday night.
AMLO didn’t provide dates for hotel construction or details on names or square footage.
