Bacalar, Q.R. — The tourist area of Bacalar reported a 50 percent occupancy rate during the Easter holiday period, which has been good, since last year, the occupancy rate was zero due to the pandemic.
Enrique Bautista, Coordinator of the Association of Hotels in the Center and South of Quintana Roo, recalled that the Easter 2020 holiday season was with a zero occupancy rate which was the beginning of the pandemic that saw major restrictions placed on the travel industry.
He added that while they have not reached capacity, they have been fluctuating between 50 and 60 percent on weekends, which provides an incentive in terms of economic recovery for the sector. During the week days, he says they only average 35 percent, and while not optimal, it is still good for those who rely on the tourism industry for income.
Bautista also applauded that three bars were fined during the Easter holiday season for failing to comply with state health protocols. He says that the last thing local business owners want is a setback in the epidemiological light.
