Although construction for the train has yet to begin, it has already garnered the interest of several entrepreneurs. So far, five French companies have spoken with the Development Institute and Financing of Quintana Roo regarding their desire to invest.
The French companies are part of the tourism sector. Among these companies are Concept 1900 Entertainment, who manufactures semi-commercial carousels. Also, ECA2, is a company that produced shows of the Cirque Du Soleil caliber. Waveriding Solution, creates the technology that gives artificial waves to pools. Another company is Skylights, who specialize in the design and production of virtual reality devices.
Philippe Garcia, commercial counselor of the French embassy, gave comment as to the reasons for the French’s investment interest. He believes there are many promising economic opportunities between France and Quintana Roo. In addition, there could be a rise in the number of French tourists to this side of Mexico because of the new Mayan Train.
“Currently, 180,000 French travelers, out of the 240,000 that visit the country enter through the international airport of Cancun, and the possibility of touring other regions of the Mexican Southeast will attract a lot more of them, especially the ones interested in cultural tourism,” Garcia stated.
