The Port Authority of Quintana Roo (Apiqroo) announced that it will offer national and foreign investors the possibility of detonating up to six hotel projects in the Bacalar lagoon, under the stilts mode, whose estimated investment is of the order of 100 million dollars.
It would be the first major hotel project in the southern part of the state, in accordance with the State Development Plan of Governor Carlos Joaquín, with which it is proposed to close the development gap between the south and north of the state.
Alicia Ricalde Magaña, director of the Apiqroo, indicated that since 2014 the concession for the use and exploitation of the lagoon, which extends over an area of 16,000 hectares of water mirror, covering four ejidos and two southern municipalities of Quintana Roo (Bacalar and Othón P. Blanco).
The projects we are going to promote are tourism-hoteliers, whose recipients are tourists with high purchasing power. We want a few rooms, but well charged and to take care of that natural wealth that is the lagoon of the seven colors.
The bathymetries carried out before the launch of this project, showed that in total there are six different points, along the 42 square kilometers of the lagoon, where the level of the water would allow the construction of these lodging rooms in the form of stilt houses. That is, there would be an opportunity to detonate six different hotel projects that, at most, would total up to 1,200 stilts and bungalows.
The stilt houses are accommodation structures built on pillars driven on bodies of calm waters, such as lakes, lagoons, and even on the seashore, such as the Dorado Maroma project of Grupo Lomas Travel in the Riviera Maya.
Lower environmental impact
It is intended that these six points of hotel development do not cover more than 20% of the total area of the lagoon, since the least possible environmental impact will be sought; In addition, Mexican hotel groups will be privileged to take advantage of this niche of opportunity, which will have the full support of the state government, assured Ricalde Magaña.
Today we know of Mexican hotel groups that are investing in Punta Cana, Jamaica or Central America. Why not turn to the south of Quintana Roo? Where they can replicate the success that their hotels have already had, and are having, in Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
Among the facilities that the government of the state will offer for the arrival of the investments, will be the support in the studies of environmental impact, and facilities in the processing of state and municipal permits.
Underwater museum
In parallel, Ricalde Magaña announced that the Apiqroo will also promote the construction of the Bacalar Underwater Museum, replicating the same project that operates in Cancun, internationally known as Musa (Underwater Museum of Art of Cancun), with public investment- private
In addition, he commented that investment opportunities will be opened in maritime transportation, to expand the options of Quintana Roo for crossing to Cozumel and Isla Mujeres.
